A renowned legal practitioner and public affairs analyst Barr. Leonard Anyogo has called on the federal government to be more proactive in attending to affairs of the nation.
Barr. Anyogo who made the call during a media parley with press men in Calabar lauded the government for efforts put so far in governance but noted that a lot still needs to be done.
According to him, the challenges and queries of the citizen should be taken seriously into cognisance as that is the first duty of a government.
He advised the government to engage its citizens in dialogues and town hall meetings where the citizens will have the opportunity to air their minds.
According to him, “Government exist for the people so there must be a bridge between the two and that bridge is citizens engagement. If there is no engagement there will be aggitation & protest”.
“If the government continues to use the stick approach where it uses security agencies and the judiciary to chastice its citizens, it won’t work always. people will always air their challenges either peacefully or aggressively so it will be easier if you give them an opportunity to dialogue and in doing this, the government must be accessible” he added.
Commenting on the state of security in the country, the legal practitioner lauded the federal government for steps taken so far and charged the ,government to be more proactive and direct more energy towards solving the security challenges.
“Government needs to overhaul the security architecture.ss I use this medium to call for a state of emergency in the security structure & there should be a security summit & total security overhaul. We shouldn’t be just giants of Africa by words, if we are giants of Africa than we must put it into reality” he said.
He disclosed that Nigeria has the potentials to compete with other developed nations as we have the expertise and resources to do so.
“This is visible with the fact that Nigerian professionals in the developed countries are making their marks and breaking new grounds”.
“To achieve this, both the government and the citizens must be proactive”.
