The governorship candidate of the social democratic party SDP has regarded the Ayade led administration’s projects as unreal. He stated this during a press briefing at the SDP administrative building in calabar.
Following a question and answer session, the former attorney general and commissioner for justice in Cross River State stated emphatically, “they are infrastructural projects, but I see them as opportunity to take land and destroy our environment. Trees were just cut down and nothing else was done”. Mr Eyo Ekpo further stressed that “the project had no business plan, no technical designs and no financing; hence if you go to the right of way you will see nature taking back its property because there have been no attention paid to any infrastructural project. The projects have no fundamental commercial reasoning and up till now the organized business community of cross river state has not stated its need for any of such projects. Whereas, the different projects has no proponent except Ayade”.
Ekpo while speaking on fighting cultism, suggested that there must be a creation of opportunity for the general public so that people can turn away from cultism, before coming hard on them. In this regard there will be a creation of a Cross River trust fund which will sponsor internship programs, jobs training program, loan programs as well as empower the youths.
He assured Cross Riverians that on becoming governor, he will strive for good governance, the administration will not make promises and undergo task beyond its reach. Also keeping in mind that although the present administration is challenged with heavy recurrent bill, and as such cannot carry out any hard projects but he will change things when he eventually comes into the seat.
Answering a question on how to maintain the limited resources in the state. The governorship candidate declared that “it will be impossible to take up projects and make infrastructures from the monthly 3 to 4 billion naira allocation given to the state. This is because the overhead recurrent bill is so heavy that it overshadows every other project. He further gave his commitment on increasing revenue for the state by clearing the state debts, investing on private sector money and NGOs and hence bringing the state to a developmental sphere, for more investors to run to.
