As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Anniversary, Chief Toyin Amuzu, a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the nation’s leaders to engage in sober reflection and critical thinking to tackle the country’s mounting challenges.
In a statement released in Abeokuta, Amuzu highlighted the pressing need for action as Nigerians grapple with economic hardship and stringent policies imposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amuzu lamented the impact of the current administration’s policies, which he said have left citizens struggling. “Our nation must do everything necessary to rise above its challenges. As we remain steadfast in our pursuit of a better tomorrow, I join others in reflecting on our nation’s journey. While we have made some significant progress, we still face overwhelming issues such as greed, poverty, dysfunctional systems, lack of basic needs, and poor leadership,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of recommitting to unity, peace, and collective progress, particularly by political office holders.
“As we celebrate this milestone, it is crucial that we reflect on our path so far. Sadly, the economic hardship and stringent policies of the ruling party have left our citizens frustrated. A hungry people is an angry people,” Amuzu noted.
Amuzu also pointed out that, despite Nigeria’s unity, the country remains at a crossroads, plagued by economic hardship, insecurity, and social unrest. He called on leaders to focus on the welfare of the people and address the nation’s deep-rooted problems.
“Our leaders must look inward and find solutions to alleviate the suffering of our people. We cannot continue to ignore the cries of our citizens,” he emphasized, urging leaders to learn from past mistakes and adopt innovative strategies to tackle the challenges facing the nation.
“As we celebrate our independence, let us remember that true freedom extends beyond political autonomy—it includes economic well-being. Let us work towards a Nigeria where every citizen has access to basic necessities of life,” Chief Amuzu added.
