Lagos ups public secondary school boardings fees by over 185%

The Lagos authorities has raised the boarding charges for all public secondary faculties within the state by over 185 p.c.

Olufemi Asaolu, the director of primary schooling providers on the ministry of primary and secondary schooling, wrote to the principals of all public boarding faculties within the state on Friday.

The letter is titled “Overview of boarding charges in all public secondary faculties in Lagos state for 2024/2025 session”.

Asaolu mentioned the schooling commissioner in Lagos accredited the rise of public boarding charges from N35,000 to N100,000 per time period.

“I’ve the directive of the honourable commissioner to tell all public boarding home faculties in Lagos state that the state authorities has accredited the evaluation of the boarding payment payable in all public boarding home faculties in Lagos State,” the letter reads partially.

“The newly accredited payment is N100,000 solely.”

Asaolu mentioned no further payment of any type must be collected by the faculties.

He added the state authorities has set the resumption date of the faculties for September 15.

In 2023, the payment for federal authorities schools (FGCs), in any other case referred to as Unity Colleges, was raised from N45,000 to N100,000.

The hike was to cowl all elements and actions of the faculties, together with tuition, boarding charges, and uniforms.
