The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday, warned apprenticeship trainers in Katsina State towards using kids under the age of 12 as apprentices of their coaching centres.
The Deputy Director, Abilities Growth and Certification Division of the Ministry, Dr. Tiza Chiila Shaakaa, gave the warning throughout the sensitisation of apprenticeship and traineeship programmes within the state.
He stated any apprenticeship centre, who engages trainees under the accepted age of 12 years, would face the wrath of the regulation because the Federal Authorities is dedicated to taming youngster labour within the nation.
Shaakaa stated: “The beneficial age for apprenticeship is 12 years. Anyone coaching an apprentice under 12 years is indulging in youngster labour and violating the Labour Act CAP 198 Part 49 to 63.
“For those who prepare anyone under 12 years, the identical regulation authorising you to hold out apprenticeship will come after you. So, all of you having apprentices below you, be certain that they’re above 12 years.”
