53-year-old engineer remanded for alleged N40m fraud

A Federal Excessive Courtroom in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 53-year-old engineer, Adeleke Adebesin, on the Nigerian Correctional Centre over alleged N40m fraud.

Justice Akintayo Aluko made the remand order following the arraignment of Adebesin and his firm, Kings Intercontinental Houses and Properties Nigeria Restricted, alongside one James Oladimeji Ogunsango, who’s at giant.

Adebesin is dealing with three counts bordering on acquiring and issuance of dud cheques, most popular towards him by the Police Particular Fraud Unit.

In the course of the arraignment, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Sylvester Azubike, informed the courtroom that someday in 2019, the defendant allegedly induced a Lagos businessman Taiye Fajana, the chairman of Twins Faja Nigeria Ltd, to ship to him the sum of N40m.

Azubike stated the defendant, his firm and Ogunsango who is claimed to be at giant, issued Stanbic IBTC financial institution cheques with cheque quantity 20218203 and account quantity 00234349 dated October 30, 2019, within the sum of N20m, drawn in favour of Twins Faja Nig Ltd, as half fee of a retuned of the N40m which he obtained by his firm’s account from Twins Faja Nigeria Restricted.

He informed the courtroom that when the cheque was offered on the financial institution, it was rejected for lack of ample funds.

In keeping with the prosecutor, the offences dedicated contravened Sections 1(1) of the Advance Charge Fraud and Different Fraud-related Offence Act, No. 14 of 2006 and had been punishable underneath Part 1(3) of the stated Act. And Part 1(a)(i) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act, 2004.

Nonetheless, the defendant pleaded not responsible to the cost towards him.

However the defendant’s lawyer, E. N. Offiah, informed the courtroom that he had simply been briefed on the matter and that he wanted a brief date to file his consumer’s bail utility.

Consequently, Justice Aluko remanded the defendant in custody and adjourned the case until March 11, pending the listening to and dedication of the bail utility.
